We have had a number of calls from members who have had vehicles presented to them in a non-start situation with batteries in a discharged state. They have found that even if they connect a good power source to the vehicle, the engines crank but will not start. Often they find that if they clear any stored fault codes, the vehicles still do not run but generate no new fault codes. One caller rang us to advice that he has had various V.A.G vehicles presented to him this way and once he replaced the vehicle battery with a good charged battery, the vehicles run.
It is considered possible that one or more of the vehicle electronic control units may have ‘locked out’ due to low battery voltages and that by disconnecting the battery to replace it, may have re-booted the systems and allowed the vehicle to run.
We often recommend powering vehicles down for some time and making sure that the vehicle battery is fully charged when dealing with non-start situations.
Does anyone out there have an opinion on this?
