Obtain Contingency Test Forms Before You Need Them – Otherwise When You Do Need Them It’s Too Late
As the new MOT computer system has experienced a few wobbles over the last few days and CT (Contingency Testing) was needed for some test stations we thought it good to remind members of the need to print off blank CT certificates.
As long as your system is working you can print off blank VT20/30/32 for handwritten completion in a CT situation if DVSA issue a CT number due to a fault. If you don’t have any pre-printed and there is system fault, you can’t then access the system to get the forms you need.

Contingency Test Numbers
A reminder that if DVSA do issue CT number to use this can only be used for one day. If the problem extends into a second day a new CT number needs to be obtained. Also keep trying to log on prior to each test in case it is now working.

Intermittent Occurrence of MOT Test Certificate Not Being Dated On With New MOT Computer System

We have had reports from members that sometimes the VT20 pass certificate does not date on to the correct expiry date if the customer has some time left on their old test record, when issued with he new MOT computer system.

We have discussed this with DVSA and they are aware that a small percentage of test records did not merge correctly from the old ATOS system with the new MOT database.

They have a fix scheduled in the next few days and they are sending instructions to DVSA local offices that they can issue replacement certificates upon request with the correct expiry date. It appears though that the record will not update automatically.

Any members who have had any of their customers affected by this should ask them to contact their local DVSA office, however they will need to wait 2 weeks before doing this to allow the necessary changes required. If needs be they can have this change applied anytime before the test record expires.

Urgent message from the DVSA:

We’re currently experiencing a problem with printing off MOT certificates within the new MOT testing service (MTS).

If you’re unable to print the final MOT documentation at the very end of the test please be assured that the test has been registered within MTS.

As a result, you’ll be able to print off the final certificate once this printing problem has been resolved by issuing a duplicate certificate for the relevant test.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused and hope this will help resolve your current problem with the new service.

If you can't access MTS (BT broadband problem), ring the BSD on 0330 123 5654 to pick the CT code up from the recorded message which is now up and running.

DVSA Notice:

You won't be able to use the MOT testing service on Sunday 16th August 2015 due to maintenance.

To test on Sunday you'll need this contingency testing (CT) code:

038DEB64

Make sure that you've printed enough contingency testing documents to make sure you can record tests on Sunday.

This doesn't affect users of the old 'MOT comp' testing service.

We have had numerous calls form members to advise that the MoT system is currently out of action, however at this stage we do not have a contingency test number for today. As soon as we have an update we will post something on this forum to update you all.

One member has now come back to advise that DVSA have sent an e-mail to him with a CT number for use today so please ensure you check your registered E-mail for any updates

DVSA Notice: MOT testing service now working

The new MOT testing service is now working following some unexpected technical issues.

We are sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused you. We do have a contingency process in place which will allow you to carry out tests if the service is unavailable in the future.

If you can't connect to the service in future, you should first check your registered email address for the latest contingency testing (CT) code.

If you haven't received an email, then you should check the MOT testing service desk's recorded message for the latest CT code.

Our members who have been moved to the new MOT computer scheme have had another frustrating day as for the 2nd day running the system has failed and DVSA has had to instigate contingency testing. This has been compounded by problems with the DVSA Service Desk phone line.

All concerns are being noted and we are in contact with DVSA with these concerns and requesting updates on the situation and assurances as to future performance.

We will post more information as soon as it is available.

We would urge all members to print off and retain a supply of VT20, VT30 and VT32 contingency certificates for the new MOT computer to enable testing to continue if there are contingency situations declared by DVSA.

Even sites that have not yet changed over can print these once the account has been claimed. DVSA have yet to publicise the security arrangements for CT certificates, but we would recommend keeping any CT copies in a secure location just in case this is what they specify.

Blank copies of the certificates are now available to download from the DVSA web site; https://www.gov.uk/guidance/mot-testing-service-contingency-testing#print-contingency-testing-documents

Hope this helps

Known issues:

There is currently an issue with printing off documents from the new service. This is a known issue and we're working to fix it.

The service is also experiencing performance issues so please spread out entering your contingency test results throughout the day as this will help minimise these issues.

A couple of things with regard to the (apparently) latest constant way of MOT Testing - Contingency Tests.
1. We have downloaded & saved all three versions of the contingency testing forms and saved them securely on our computer. This means that we can print them out as & when needed and we don't need to keep a stash of them somewhere on site.
2. Just a thought, but these continued problems with the system are causing us all headaches and more importantly time delays & inconvenience to our customers. Will the IGA be lobbying The DVSA for some form of compensation for their members in respect of this?
