I am trying to trace an intermittent on the front and rear wipers. The car was MOT'd by us with no problem. The customer collected the car and the front wipers would not turn off, however the next morning the wipers worked ok. 2 weeks later he left his polo with us because the fault had reoccurred. We found that if we disconnected the tailgate lock solenoid the front wipers stopped working so we fitted a new tailgate lock with integral solenoid/switch. Customer had no problems for 3 weeks then yesterday the rear wiper stayed on and he could not turn it off. We disconnected the rear motor for him as he could not leave his car, with the rear motor disconnected the front wipers when switched on would not turn off. Has anyone had this problem, if so I would appreciate your help.

Hello
I know this is an old post but thought i would reply to shed some light as I've experienced a very similar scenario on the TECH HELPLINE.
So the vehicle had an rear wiper issue, the rear indicators would flash every time the boot was opened and then the vehicle wouldn't start. The garage had replaced the BCM and problem solved. The customer opened the boot then the same problem occured. After carrying out wiring checks, they found an open circuit within the wiring towards the rear wiper motor. What was happening was the vehicle was earthing on the broken wire and causing a back probe to the BCM wiping it out every time. There is also a technical service bulletin for water ingress due to the incorrect design of the rear washer jet which can get into the boot lock. To fix this a one way valve type washer jet is fitted so the water cannot come back out.
