Driver Complaint – Low engine oil warning light illuminated but the engine had sufficient oil showing on the dip stick.

Cause/Symptom – Vehicles with a bonnet pin switch fitted in the bonnet release mechanism are affected.

Rectification Route – The low engine oil warning doubles as a warning to alert the driver that the bonnet is not fully latched down. There have been instances where the pin switch has been at fault but in this instance there was a broken/corroded wire to the rear of the switch causing an open circuit indicating there was a problem with the oil level. The wiring was repaired and the fault illuminated.
