Driver Complaint – ABS warning light illuminated. Rectification Route –Caller had a 55 plate Nissan Pathfinder with an ABS fault and a loss of signal from one rear wheel sensor. He had already replaced the sensors on the rear which are supplied as a pair fitted to the rear axle casing, but this had not resolved the fault. After discussing with us, the caller checked the continuity of the wiring from the ABS module up to the multi-plug on the rear axle and found that one wire was open circuit for the sensor in question. He then found a second harness connector around the lower engine bay/wheel housing area and checked the wiring from the module to this connector to find good continuity. When he checked the continuity from the rear section of the wiring from the engine bay/wheel housing up to the rear axle he again had an open circuit. There being no other multi-plug connectors in the loom, he opened up the harness to find that the wire had corroded in the main part of the under-body loom. This was not near to any joints or mountings and the insulation was intact along with the convoluted wiring protective sheath. The caller repaired the wiring and re-secured the insulation to the wiring harness. Road testing the vehicle revealed the fault had been rectified.
