Driver Complaint – Severe lack of power, no warning lights displayed and no fault codes logged. Cause/Symptom – When the mass air flow meter was unplugged the vehicle ran as normal. Rectification Route – Carry out wiring checks first as follows- Turn off ignition and disconnect connector from mass air meter, crank the engine and measure the voltage between terminal 2 and battery negative. It should be equal to battery voltage (12v) if not check wiring, relay/fuses. Measure the voltage between terminal 4 and battery negative. It should be 5volt if not check wiring. Check wiring continuity from mass air connector back to the ECU as follows- Remove the connectors from both the mass air meter and the ECU. Measure the resistance between terminals 1,3,4,5 and the corresponding terminals of the ECU connector. They should be <1 ohm. if not check the wiring. In this case the wiring was o.k. and replacing the mass air flow meter rectified the concern.
