Power windows can be activated when the ignition is in ACC or RUN position. For a 45-second time period after ignition is turned off, the windows can be operated (except for one-touch mode). If the driver’s door is opened, the window system will remain active for an additional 45 seconds or until the door is closed. If a door lock signal is received during either 45-second period, the power window system will be deactivated.

When any power window switch is pressed in either direction for less than 0.4 second, one-touch mode is then activated. The specific window will move in the selected direction until an obstruction is detected (close only) or the motor stalls. This mode can be cancelled by operating the power window switch in the opposite direction. The one-touch mode on the rear windows is a programmable feature.

When any power window switch is pressed in either direction for more than 0.4 second, inch mode is activated. The specific window will move in selected direction until an obstruction is detected (close only), limit of travel is reached or the switch is released.

All windows can be activated independently from each other, and may operate in parallel. If there is any conflict between any of the switches, then the power window switch located in the centre console will have top priority. A rear inhibit switch located in the centre console can be used to prevent rear window operation by rear door switches.

The front windows are controlled by the BECM, by the front door outstations and a centre console switch outstation. Rear windows are controlled directly by the BECM which responds to the operation request of the applicable rear window switch.

Front and rear window systems have an anti-trap function to prevent injury to driver or passengers. If the vehicle battery is disconnected anti-trap and one-touch functions will be cancelled. Initialization of the windows enables the one-touch function on the front windows and anti-trap function on all windows after the battery disconnection. Initialization is achieved by holding the applicable window switch in the down position until the window stalls. Then hold the switch in the up position, and when the window is fully closed, hold the switch in the up position for another second. An audible chime will sound and the message centre will display a message to confirm that the applicable window has been set.

The anti-trap function is capable of detecting a trap situation over the full range of windows. BECM will open a rear window approximately 7.8” (200 mm) or until the motor stalls and when a trap situation is detected. BECM will open a front window fully until the motor stall position when a trap situation is detected. Anti-trap is sensed by 2 Hall Effect sensors located within each window motor. The sensors output pulses to the BECM at a frequency of 62.5 Hz. When a trap condition occurs, the frequency of the pulses is reduced and sensed by BECM, which immediately backs off the affected window. In extreme temperature conditions the window mechanism may become partly frozen causing the window anti-trap function to operate. Anti-trap can be overridden by operating the window switch in the up position within 10 seconds of the window having detected the trap situation and backing off. The window up function will only operate in inch mode and anti-trap override will only continue for as long as the switch is pressed. Anti-trap override is displayed in the message centre by an ANTI TRAP OFF message and the affected window specified. There will be 3 audible warning chimes that will sound and will be repeated continuously while the window is operated with anti-trap override. Anti-trap override is only available from the window control switches in the centre console.
