The DVSA has just updated the Contingency Testing webpage with new information

https://www.gov.uk/guidance/mot-testing-service-contingency-testing

They have confirmed that they will provide CT codes on this page every day until the end of August. This page also has blank copies of the CT forms.

Blank forms printed from here will not be pre-populated with your details - but they can be downloaded even if you are not logged into the new system

Thanks to all members for their feedback on the operation (or lack of) with the current MoT system.

One or two members have called to say that they have had problems when purchasing MoT slots. One member has since found that if he uses his mobile device to buy slots, the system worked OK for him. He is not too sure if this was a one off situation, however he suggested that we let others know that if they experience difficulties in buying slots, then try either a PC which does not have strong antivirus systems installed or if you have access to a tablet/mobile device then try to purchase slots that way. Let us know what you find so that we can inform and update others.

On a similar issue, many of you will have experienced problems when printing documents off the new system such as pass / fail documents etc. A member has suggested trying to use the system with alternative web browsers as he had found the system would not print with older versions of Internet Explorer. If you have access to browsers such as Google Chrome, then try to use the system and print documents as this can affect the way the system works.

As ever your feedback is the only way we have of letting others know what is happening and passing this information around can only go to help all test stations at this difficult time of transition.

Hope the above is of assistance to you.

DVSA notice:

The MOT testing service is working and you can now use it for testing.

The previous printing issue affected a small number of garages and has now been fixed.

You should only use contingency testing when the service in unavailable.

please try to spread out entering any contingency test results throughout the day as this will help the service's overall performance.

DVSA notice:

We're aware that some users are having problems using the MOT testing service and may not be able to test.

If you're unable to carry out tests today you can use this contingency testing (CT) code to carry on testing.

You should only use this code if the service is unavailable so make sure you check to see if the service is working before using it:

1175850C

This doesn't affect users of the old 'MOT comp' testing service.

Please try to spread out entering your contingency test results throughout the day as this will help the service's overall performance.

DVSA Notice: MOT testing service – planned maintenance this weekend.

The MOT testing service will be available until 2pm on Saturday 22 August 2015. After this we’ll be carrying out planned maintenance work until normal trading hours start on Monday morning.

After 2pm on Saturday, you’ll need to use this contingency testing (CT) code to carry on testing. This code is valid for both Saturday and Sunday:

66102863

You should use the MOT testing service as normal before 2pm on Saturday.

Please spread out entering your contingency test results throughout the day on Monday as this will help with the service’s overall performance.

This doesn't affect users of the old ‘MOT comp’ testing service.

Purchasing MoT Slots

Several people have called today to raise issues with purchasing MoT slots on the new system. This is something DVSA are aware of, however it appears that they are not being helpful in finding a solution.

We understand they have been working on a fix and we have applied pressure to them to resolve this issue as a matter of urgency.

We have had some feed back that purchasing slots can be an issue with some computer systems or software, as a result we are advising people to try and log onto the system with a different device and if available try a mobile device or tablet and see if that will work.

We have called the DVSA helpline on 0330 123 5654 and selected option 2 for Finance. They confirmed that any individual who has been charged for slots which have not been applied to their account, can call them with full details of their account and the transaction so that they can credit the users account with the amount charged. You should also discuss how to proceed with testing once your slots have all been used, if you are not able to purchase additional slots.

Please let us know how you get on so that we can advise others accordingly.

Thanks

A few updates from the DVSA:

Contingency testing (CT) codes for Bank Holiday and next week

As happened last weekend, the contingency testing code for this Saturday 29 August 2015 will last all Bank Holiday weekend and will be valid until the end of Bank Holiday Monday 31 August 2015.

DVSA is also extending the temporary publication of contingency testing (CT) codes on the GOV.UK website up until Friday 4 September 2015 and they'll continued to be published on the following link:

DVSA is also going to continue emailing out codes to users of the MOT testing service at 6am each day until Friday 4 September 2015.

The advice still stands that anyone wanting to use a contingency testing code should only do so if they cannot access the MOT testing service and are unable to carry out tests.

Relaxation of contingency retro-keying rules

Due to the high number of contingency tests which have been carried out over the past couple of weeks DVSA has relaxed the rules on retro-keying results back into the service.

It's just published guidance about this on the GOV.UK website under the following link:

DVSA will also be emailing all users of the MOT testing service with an update about this on Friday morning (28 August 2015).

The DVSA have just issued a fresh update to the "Known Issues & Workarounds" page of their website.

This time it's about Duplicate Certificates

Another update - this time on retest procedure.
The existing retest process has changed within the MOT testing service. To carry out a retest, you’ll now need to carry out a vehicle search via the ‘Start MOT test’ button and the service will recognise if your vehicle qualifies for a retest. You’ll then need to confirm if you want to retest your chosen vehicle.

This means the old 'retest' link, which used to be under the ‘Start MOT test’ button, has been removed.

All the existing retest rules still apply. To find out more visit the following page on the GOV.UK website:

DVSA Updates:

Contingency codes update

DVSA will stop sending daily contingency testing codes after Mondady 12 October 2015.
After this date, you can contact the DVSA MOT testing service desk on 0330 123 5654 for a code.
If there is an 'authorised outage' you can pick up that day's code from the service desk's recorded message.

Issues and workarounds update

Following some work over the past weekend the following former MOT testing service issues have been fixed and should no longer be causing garages any problems:
• Slot accounts not updating - There should no longer be any problems related to users paying for slots by debit or credit card and their slot accounts not updating. There have been some issues along these same lines to do with those authorised examiners (AEs) who pay by Direct Debit but this is in the process of being fixed and their slot accounts should update over the new few days
• Incorrect expiry dates - There is a plan in place to fix this problem automatically but customers can still contact the Customer Service Centre if they urgently need a replacement certificate
• Issue duplicate certificates - All garages should be able to issue duplicate certificates to customers
• See odometer readings - The past 4 years of odometer readings should now be visible for vehicles on the MOT testing service

If you have any issues related to the above, call the DVSA MOT testing service desk on 0330 123 5654 (Mon to Fri 8am to 8pm and Sat 8am to 2pm).
To find out more and the remaining issues and workarounds visit the following page on the GOV.UK website - https://www.gov.uk/guidance/mot-testing-service-known-issues-and-workarounds

DVSA Notice:
We’ve fixed some issues within the MOT testing service which may have been causing you problems over the past few weeks.

1. Duplicate certificates
All testers can now issue duplicate certificates. We’ll be making sure site managers and admin staff will be able to do the same in the near future.

2. Odometer readings
You’ll now be able to see the past 4 years of odometer readings.

3. Slots updating
If you pay for slots by debit or credit card, then you’ll no longer have any problems with your slot account updating.

Help and support
If you experience any issues call the MOT testing service desk on 0330 123 5654 (Mon to Fri 8am to 8pm and Sat 8am to 2pm - excluding public holidays).
Please don’t contact your Local Area Office or the Customer Service Centre as they won’t be able to help you.

DVSA Notice:

The MOT testing service: known issues and workarounds page on GOV.UK has been updated following the latest slot payment issues: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/mot-testing-service-known-issues-and-workarounds#slot-accounts-not-updating

Some slot payments made by debit and credit card are failing to update garage slot balances. The DVSA Finance team is currently working through a backlog of these issues, with all garages who've already reported this problem set to receive their slots by Friday 6 November 2015.

If you have already reported this kind of issue to the MOT testing service desk, please do not ring up again as it will delay slot balances being updated.

Alternatively, any garages who have any new slot-related issues will need to contact the service desk on 0330 123 5654 option 2 (Mon to Fri 8am to 8pm and Sat 8am to 2pm - excluding public holidays) so their problem can be logged and then fixed.

URGENT DVSA NOTICE:

The MOT testing service will be unavailable this evening (Wednesday 21 October 2015) from 8pm to 1am as a service update is taking place.

You will be emailed a Contingency Testing (CT) code should you need it before close of business today.

As a result of the update outlined above, from tomorrow (Thursday 22 October 2015) all roles will be able to carry out training tests within the MOT testing service.

However, there is an issue where those who haven't got a tester role won’t be able to add RfRs, which means they can only carry out training tests which result in a straight pass.

This issue is being fixed and DVSA will let users know when everyone can carry out training tests without any problems.
