Driver Complaint – Erratic and intermittent loss of gear change. Cause/Symptom – Fault code P1698 logged in the system memory and warning light illuminated. P1698 indicates transmission control module control error. Rectification Route – In this instance the gearbox had an intermittent gear change fault, sometimes it would change gear o.k. and other times there was no gear change at all. The fault was located to a poor wiring connector from the steering wheel spiral cable to the automatic transmission control module pins 37 and 39 that is located on the steering column. The connection was made secure and the fault code removed from the system and after a road test the fault was confirmed to be cleared.
